DOD Watch Applauds Hegseth’s COVID-19 Reinstatement Task Force for Service Members

WASHINGTON – DOD Watch issued the following statement regarding Secretary of War Pete Hegseth’s establishment of the COVID-19 Reinstatement and Reconciliation Task Force:  

“DOD Watch applauds Secretary Hegseth for establishing the COVID-19 Reinstatement and Reconciliation Task Force to address the unjust treatment of thousands of service members impacted by the Biden administration’s COVID-19 vaccine mandate. This effort represents an important step toward restoring accountability within the armed forces after years of politically driven policies that undermined morale, readiness, and confidence in military leadership.

“The Biden Pentagon’s vaccine mandate resulted in the involuntary separation of nearly 8,000 service members, many of whom had faithfully served their country with distinction prior to refusing the vaccine on personal, religious, or medical grounds. These policies imposed severe professional and personal consequences on troops and their families, often disregarding legitimate concerns and longstanding principles of individual liberty and informed consent. 

“This initiative also sends a broader message that the Department of War must remain focused on warfighting capability, operational excellence, and the constitutional principles our service members swear to defend, not ideological or politically motivated mandates that divide the force and weaken trust between troops and leadership. 

“DOD Watch remains encouraged by the Pentagon’s renewed emphasis on restoring accountability and rebuilding a military culture centered on strength, unity, readiness, and respect for those who serve. The men and women affected by these policies deserve both recognition for their sacrifice and a fair opportunity to continue serving their country with honor.”
