DOD Watch Applauds Secretary Hegseth’s Bold Reforms to Restore Military Standards

WASHINGTON – DOD Watch, an organization dedicated to calling out radical policies within the Department of War, issued the following statement after Secretary of War Pete Hegseth announced sweeping changes to military standards and culture: 

"Secretary Hegseth’s leadership marks a long-overdue course correction for our Armed Forces. By reinstating a single, rigorous physical standard for combat roles and eliminating ideological distractions like DEI offices and identity-based programming, he is returning the military to its core mission: preparing for and winning wars.

“We strongly support his focus on daily physical training, clear grooming standards, and restoring accountability at all levels. These are foundational to a strong, unified, and effective fighting force. 

“For too long, the Pentagon has allowed political agendas to erode readiness and morale. Secretary Hegseth is taking action, not just talking, by demanding excellence, enforcing discipline, and rejecting wokeness in favor of warfighting capability.

“It’s essential to recognize that the politicization of the military has been an ongoing failure of leadership for decades. Military leaders, many of whom are still in positions of power, were complicit in the erosion of standards and the push for politically driven agendas during the Obama and Biden administrations. This was a complete failure in military leadership. 

“The same generals and admirals who were responsible for the introduction of DEI and the reduction of standards to accommodate social goals should not be expected to reverse these policies. As Secretary Hegseth rightly points out, we need a new generation of leaders who are empowered to do the right thing, free from the influence of political ideologies. It’s time to move forward, put aside past failures, and prioritize the readiness, cohesion, and warfighting capability that our military needs to defend this nation."
