DOD Watch Praises Dismissal of Admiral Who Allowed Drag Shows on Aircraft Carrier

WASHINGTON – DOD Watch, a group dedicated to calling out radical policies within the Department of Defense, released the following statement after the Pentagon withdrew its nomination for Rear Admiral Michael Donnelly to be promoted to Vice Admiral:

“DOD Watch strongly commends the Department of Defense for withdrawing the nomination of Rear Admiral Michael Donnelly, who allowed drag queen performances aboard the USS Ronald Reagan during his command. The U.S. military is not a stage for political or cultural experimentation. It is a fighting force tasked with defending our nation, and its leaders must reflect a commitment to strength, discipline, and unity—not social activism. 

“Admiral Donnelly permitted sanctioned drag shows on a nuclear powered aircraft carrier that he commanded. The “performers” received cash prizes for this gross politicization, and the entire ethos of the Navy profession suffered. This breakdown of politicization and standards was a symptom of a broader drift away from the core mission of our armed forces. The USS Ronald Reagan should project American power and resolve, not serve as a platform for ideological agendas. 

“The Pentagon’s decision sends a clear message: commanders will be held responsible for promoting activities that compromise the dignity and mission focus of our warfighting institutions. This is a positive development for the U.S. Navy and for every American who wants to see our military return to what it does best, defending freedom through excellence and strength, not through ideological performance.”
