WASHINGTON – DOD Watch, a group dedicated to calling out radical policies within the Department of Defense, issued the following statement after the U.S. Military Academy rescinded a high-level appointment to Jen Easterly in West Point’s Department of Social Sciences:
“DOD Watch applauds Secretary of the Army Dan Driscoll for his swift action in directing the United States Military Academy at West Point to rescind the appointment of Jen Easterly as the McDermott Distinguished Chair and for initiating a review of the academy’s hiring practices. This decision is a necessary step toward restoring professionalism, accountability, and ideological neutrality in one of our nation’s most important military institutions.
“While the Secretary’s intervention is commendable, it must be the beginning of a much broader effort. A simple review of hiring processes is not sufficient. The Department of Defense must take further steps to remove all individuals within the academies who have promoted or perpetuated radical woke ideologies, including those tied to DEI programs or politically motivated disinformation initiatives.
“The selection of Easterly, a figure closely associated with the Biden administration and ideologically aligned programs such as the Disinformation Governance Board, should have immediately raised concerns. That her appointment was allowed to proceed, until it was rightly reversed, raises questions about the internal oversight and the extent of political favoritism in academic selections. Notably, Easterly is a classmate of Lieutenant General Steven W. Gilland, the current Superintendent of West Point.
“The revocation of Easterly’s appointment is a step in the right direction. But the work is far from over. The Pentagon must commit itself fully to restoring focus, discipline, and traditional military values to every academy classroom and every decision-making process.”
