WASHINGTON – DOD Watch, an organization dedicated to exposing radical policies within the Department of Defense, issued the following statement applauding Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth for ordering the renaming of the USNS Harvey Milk as part of a broader effort to refocus our military ethos.

“Ensuring our vessels bear names steeped in warfighting tradition, not politicized social messaging, is essential for rebuilding the lethal, cohesive spirit we entrust with our national defense. The renaming of this ship is a clear statement: our Navy’s ships must inspire warrior-caliber resolve, not serve as platforms for identity politics.

“This move isn’t an erasure of history, it’s a recommitment to focusing on combat readiness, cohesion around shared mission and purpose, and reaffirming military professionalism. Our sailors and marines deserve assets named for warrior leaders whose service and sacrifice embody the essence of combat effectiveness.”

About DOD Watch: The DOD Watch is dedicated to examining and informing the public about wokeness in the Department of Defense.
